The short answer

What a dental implant is, in plain words

A dental implant is a small titanium screw that replaces the root of a missing tooth. It is placed in the jawbone, the bone grows around it over the following months, and then a crown, a bridge or a full set of teeth is fixed on top. At Dental Express, implant placement starts at $8,900 MXN (about $510 USD) in Puerto Vallarta and Ajijic, and your full price is confirmed in writing before you travel.

  • It replaces the root, not just the visible tooth — that is the difference from a regular bridge
  • Neighbouring teeth are not filed down to hold it
  • It does not come out at night like a removable denture
  • One implant can hold one tooth; a few implants can hold a whole arch

Whether implants are right for you depends on your bone and gums, and that can only be seen on a 3D scan. If you already have a recent X-ray or CBCT from home, send it and we will tell you what is possible before you plan the trip.

How it works

How many trips do dental implants take?

Most implant cases take two trips: one to place the implant and one, a few months later, to fit the final teeth. Your written plan tells you exactly how many days each one needs.

  1. 1

    Send us your case

Form, WhatsApp or phone. A photo, or an X-ray you already have, is enough to start.

  2. 2

    Get your written plan

The option that fits you, the price, and how many days you need to be here — before you buy a flight.

  3. 3

    Trip 1: scan and placement

A 3D scan in the clinic to plan the exact position, then the implant is placed. Then you go home to heal.

  4. 4

    Trip 2: your new teeth

Once the bone has grown around the implant, we fit the crown, bridge or denture, made in our own lab.

Why patients fly in for implants

Planned in 3D, finished in our own lab

  • 3D scan on site. Your implant is planned on an image of your actual bone, taken in the same clinic.
  • Our own dental lab. Crowns, bridges and dentures are designed and milled here, not shipped out.
  • A written price first. You know the cost and the number of days before you book anything.
  • An English-speaking team, from the first message to the dental chair.
  • Treating patients from the U.S. and Canada since 2009, in Puerto Vallarta and Ajijic.

Questions patients ask

Dental implants in Mexico: frequent questions

How much do dental implants cost in Mexico?

At Dental Express, placing a dental implant starts at $8,900 MXN (about $510 USD), in both Puerto Vallarta and Ajijic. A zirconia crown starts at $4,800 MXN (about $275 USD); the crown for your implant is quoted in your plan.

These are starting prices for each step, not the cost of a complete treatment: a single implant usually combines the 3D scan, the placement and the crown. Full-arch cases such as All-on-4 are quoted after a 3D scan, because the number of implants depends on your bone. You receive the full price in writing before you travel.

Is it safe to get dental implants in Mexico?

Safety depends on the clinic, not on the country. Wherever you go, check that the clinic is registered with the health authority, that a licensed dentist is responsible for it, that the implant is planned on a 3D scan and that you receive a written treatment plan.

Dental Express operates under COFEPRIS operating notice 2514045036X00093. Its responsible dentist is Dr. Edgard Macías Solano, professional licence 6593140 (Universidad de Guadalajara), and implants are planned on a CBCT scan taken in the clinic.

How many trips do I need for dental implants in Mexico?

Most cases take two trips: one to place the implant and one, a few months later, to fit the final crown, bridge or denture. Your written plan tells you how many days each trip needs before you book a flight.

How long does an implant take to heal?

Usually a few months. During that time the bone grows around the implant and holds it firmly; only then is the final tooth fixed on top. You spend that time at home, not in Mexico.

What is All-on-4?

All-on-4 is a full set of fixed teeth for the upper or lower jaw held by four implants; All-on-6 uses six. It replaces all the teeth in that arch with teeth you do not take out. Dental Express makes the full arch in its own dental lab. Whether you can have it, and with how many implants, depends on your bone, which is checked on a 3D scan.

I already wear dentures. Can implants help?

Often, yes. Two common options are an implant-supported (“snap-on”) denture, which clips onto implants so it stays in place, and a fixed full arch such as All-on-4. Which one suits you depends on your bone. Complete dentures at Dental Express start at $6,900 MXN (about $397 USD).

Puerto Vallarta or Ajijic: which clinic should I choose?

Both clinics offer implants with the same starting prices. Puerto Vallarta suits patients who combine treatment with a beach stay; Ajijic, on Lake Chapala, is about 45 minutes from Guadalajara airport (GDL) and suits patients who live in the area or fly into Guadalajara.

What should I send to get a quote?

A photo of your smile and any X-ray or 3D scan you already have, plus a line about your situation and when you could travel. Mention any medical conditions and the medicines you take. With that we reply with the likely option and a written price.
